you'd probably be in a better position. you only need an 80/100 to band 6, in addition, a band 6 in physics is worth the same as a band 6 in chemistry. And the physics exams are way easier - easier calculations, easier qualitative concepts, less abstract)

fair enough, I don't think chem is counting to my ATAR as is, and yeah the math would've been great 'cause I'm good at math haha

I do kinda need chem for med tho so I'm glad I picked it (I didn't know what I wanted to do in year 10)

the 9-markers look worse than chem ones tho

My school dont allow u to walk out at all probs cos its too distracting for others still doing it

my school had both maths advanced and standard sitting in the same hall last wednesday, and since standard kids finish a half hour early, they were all getting up loudly and annoyingly while the rest of us were trying to decipher that test... not the best experience

Can smo gimme a quick rundown on polymer stuff and how to draw monomers from polymers and polymers from monomers pls

my school had both maths advanced and standard sitting in the same hall last wednesday, and since standard kids finish a half hour early, they were all getting up loudly and annoyingly while the rest of us were trying to decipher that test... not the best experience

this is the first time I realised that standard is shorter than advanced omg

our school is pretty good with that stuff, in SOR I couldn't hear the SORI kids at all apart from the clatter of putting pens down

addition polymers -> double bond in a monomer breaks -> frees up an electron per atom -> bonds between the monomers
- polyethlyene
-polytetrafluoroethylene
- polyvinyl chloride
- poly styrene
- polypropylene

condensation -> condensation reactions between functional group -> loss of small molecule (usually water) -> bonds between the monomers
- polyesters
-polyamides -> nylons
- proteins \

that is as simply as it can be put. and learn some examples in detail if you get time.

Math Standard 2 is for people who should've dropped out at the end of year 10 and become brick layers.

sometimes you can get monomers with a different functional group on either side -> like having a hydroxyl on one side and a carboxyl on the other, and an amide group on one side and a carboxyl on the other.

Also question, in module 8 do you think we need to know how to draw diagrams for all of the instrumental analysis tecniques?? I've only really ever heard of having to draw one for as AAS, but would we need to know how to draw ones like mass spectrometry too?

Yeah I would imagine, but if you don’t it’s not a big deal it’s very unlikely for it to come up and even if it does it’s not going to be worth a lot of marks

chemistry is actual suffering. physics is way easier, even though its writing, its easier to memories the essays as well.

physics also scales much better than chemistry (raw -> scaled mark)

Yeah but the aligned chemistry mark generally gives better ATAR contributions than physics.

you're not understanding the point. If people were better informed, they definitely would've considered physics more than chemistry

You need a 90 raw to get a scaled mark of 45/50 in chemistry
Meanwhile you only need an 80 raw to get a scaled mark of 45/50 in physics.

Alignment is pretty irrelevant given that UAC scales stuff based on raw mark anyway.

Not only that, hsc physics exams are objectively easier.
