I think HSC is harder as your final marks are on the line. If you 'mess up', there's no more chances to change your marks (not that ATAR is the end of the world, but is still important depending in your course icl)

HSC is definitely the best written exam, I find James Ruse relies on some OOS questions in order to artificially inflate its difficulty, NSB I find strikes a better balance between difficulty and syllabus though it does enrage me sometimes - though selective schools have higher “raw” difficulty, HSC is more creative and satisfactory imo

Yeah I do feel like selective school papers are only hard for the sake of being hard, and in that pursuit, they can be extremely niche.

HSC exams are definitely more well-written, which is expected because a lot more effort goes into them

I thought people say that the trials are harder than the hsc
maybe true for other subjects, just not 4u 🤣

I reckon nsb and ruse are the other way around

e.g. minimum of abcd from nsb 2022, pulley on a pulley from nsb 2021

ruse papers are usually okay

most selective school papers are straight up easier than HSC imo

even for physics the hsc is harder than trials.

hsc exam writers take care to make sure their last questions are novel, unlike trial writers with solely a financial incentive
