So I enrolled in a course which didn't have any available lab spots (even tho there was like 70 smt spots still open for the course) and so it left me enrolled but on a waitlist for the actual classes. At what point should i just give up and replace it with something different with available class registers and then try to get the course for t2? I don't really wanna wait until the last day only to find out that i never got off the waitlist and be unable to fill the gap with a different course.

Consider a full class enrolment request if you must (if waitlists are not available). See if you can adjust the timetable (I did this for PHYS1121).

Gotcha, there is a wait list which I'm on for phys1131 but literally every lab timeslot was full which was what baffled me initially. I'll keep phys enrolled and hopefully I'll get a spot even if I have to twist my math times (online anyway)

Apparently places will likely be available at some point. Stay in them and contact UNSW if you must (when nearing census date).
Would it be wise to enrol and register for a backup course if i don't get a place and then just drop the backup if I do?

the government should cap internationals at 30% and put way more funding into university only for (actual) science, law and med.

those internationals got to choose their spots first which is unfair to everyone else

Alright good news everyone, I managed to find some workarounds by dropping and picking up different timeslots and it finally accepted it. It slightly butchered my timetable a bit but I at least still get to stay home on Thursdays (except for the weeks when I have CHEM1131 exams which are unfortunately late in the day but it was the only option at the time).
