this is kind of stupid but it only hit me now that i genuinely need to start doing well in regards to my academics since its one of the most straight forward ways to success in life. im not gifted at all in stem nor humanities and i struggle to focus for longer than 20 minutes which leads to my study sessions being like 6 hours (70% of which is me being periodically distracted) i know from the sounds of it i genuinely seem retarded af... but i hate being home with my mum since we argue 24/7 and i end up too frustrated to study, but when i try pay attention at school, the kids in my class are genuinely so loud and jarring.
a lot of my learning throughout school was hindered because i got bullied by the kids in my classes

but ya i really really need someone to give me any sort of study advice right now because atm im painfully average in everything and i want nothing more than to just do well in something

lowkey I have the same issue. Maybe try join our ypt group to motivate you. But lowkey the only way to motivate yourself is to just force yourself to work. it takes discipline but also u can try rewarding urself and maybe studying in a library or a different environment. But for study advice it depends on the subject and what specific things u struggle in. I think just working at ur weaknesses, drilling practice questions and asking for feedback really helps. But if u have more questions u can always ask me

But also it's ok to not be gifted in academics cause I'm not either. But all u can do is try ur best and even if u don't get the results u want it's ok because there are many other paths to take that will be suited to ur gifts and talents and there are many ways to succeed in life even without being super good at academics. Cause academics might not be the most straight forward path for everyone and u might find other paths that aren't even that bad that lead u to success

ofccc but they dont upload past papers or practise exams for us since im y10 ;(
i improved from year 8 to 9...however ive been in 75%< jail for a year now without any improvement

Maybe ask ur teachers for some. Also I think thsc might have some for math. But if u want some i have some

hrm would depend on what subjects you intend to take
tbh i dont study that much at all compared to the 8 hour kids or the kids who go tutoring every afternoon (max on ypt was 4 hours in a day and i hit that like 3 times in the 2 years ive been using it, exception is 6 hours ONCE but that was an outlier). advice i would give to study smarter is to make sure you really understand a concept (for stem mostly) before you move on bc you retain the knowledge way better and likely won't need revision before exams and you can dive straight into past papers. study ahead using resources online is a good move esp if its a subject you enjoy.
i studied ahead on basic chem in summer holidays before year 11 and the first term i was just slacking in class cause i already knew most content and could spend time at home just doing practise or learning further ahead
also find i dont really "learn" in class i prefer to go home and research afterwards as a form of learning. in class ill be slacking or dead stare daydreaming.

also know your way around the syllabus, might help to chat with a graduate though youre '27 so syllabus might change. this way you know what you actually need to memorise, and what you dont need to (like for maths i found out what formulas are actually needed and only memorised those, didnt waste brainpower memorising long ass formulas that apply to one niche question which can be solved in a few extra steps without, or formulas on the formula sheet or can be derived from formulas on the formula sheet)

rn i have exams for biology, math, geography, history + random elective. i sort of have an idea how to study all of them except biology since its new to me. how do i start memorising a syllabus once i get a hold of it? it kinda sounds overwhelming + the syllabus change highkey haunts me

for bio make sure u know ur content really well and then do practice questions that apply ur knowledge to the questions. Also make sure u make ur notes early on and start memorising stuff as soon as u can so that u can focus on past papers before exams instead of making notes.

Yr11 and 12 are a time where you'll start to realise that a lot of people change in terms of how they view academics and start to reassess their priorities, so I think it's perfect that you're also identifying areas that you're weak in. It's absolutely not stupid at all and more than half the state is going through the same thing. Even now at times I literally sit to work for 6hrs but end up doing only 4hrs of actual leanring.

Start by creating a space where you'll be comfortable to study with minimal distractions. And that place varies from person to person. Personally for me, as counterintuitive as it sounds, I absolutely can't focus in my room in the quite and so I've set up a little study desk outside in the hall where I can see and hear everything happening. But throughout it all I'm super focused. Also find a time when you study most productively. It might be early in the morning, or at night or in the afternoon, or a mixture of these.

As far as studying techniques are concerned. Well that's what yr 11 is for. Try a range of techniques and see what suits you best. Do you work better by writing syllabus notes? In depth or summarised? Does it work for you to do full exams in timed conditions, or just random questions to consolidate your understanding? tysmm im trying to figure out an efficient way to study diff subjects rn! at home i only have one desk i can study on which is the dinner table so im gonna try studying at night to avoid everyone being noisy. wish me luck xd
