Are you a past HSC student with strengths in Maths?
Do you want to be play an important role in this year's BoS Trials which are referenced by many students, teachers and tutors across the state?
Every year we host the BoS trial exam events in early October (see the 2022, 2023 and 2024 threads). This is usually an in-person event where we invite students to practice an unseen trial paper (written by us) under simulated exam conditions. Last year, we ran the BoS trials for Mathematics Extension 1, Mathematics Extension 2 and Business Studies.
Behind the scenes there are multiple people who take time out of their busy lives to write the trial exam content, run the event and mark student responses. These people are crucial in helping make the event a success to the benefit of the HSC student community every year. Unlike many other sites that may have commercial/monetary interests, the BoS trials are run by a team of volunteers that are all about helping the student community.
Once again this year, we need some help
. We are looking for people to fill the following volunteering roles in the BoS Trials team. Details are below.
________________________________________________________________
1. Markers (and authors) for the Maths BoS Trials
Our infamous Maths BoS Trials have been going on for 10+ years and in recent years we have had a shortage of markers. This is because there is often a short time between the event and the actual HSC Maths exams which makes the marking and solution writing process quite intensive and is constrained by the number of people who are available to help. This is not something that the exam authors can do themselves.
We are therefore looking for markers who will:
This year we will also be giving a small financial gesture for a job well done - as our way of saying thanks!
Ideally, we would like people with the following:
If this sounds like you, please send me a PM here outlining your expression of interest, including academic background/experience and availability before 31 August 2025.
________________________________________________________________
In summary, if you are suitably qualified and want to contribute substantially to helping our HSC student community with a short-term project then you are highly encouraged to apply. Look forward to hearing from you.
Please also forward this to anyone you know who could be a suitable candidate and may be interested in helping out as well...

We are therefore looking for markers who will:
- Read and understand the student responses provided (usually around 30-40ish students for each subject)
- Assess and determine the marks awarded in line with our provided solutions and guidance
This year we will also be giving a small financial gesture for a job well done - as our way of saying thanks!
Ideally, we would like people with the following:
- achieved a comfortable band E4 in HSC Mathematics Extension 2
- tutored students in HSC Maths
- studied/studying Maths (or related) at university
- must be physically available in first two weeks of October to collect and mark student responses
If this sounds like you, please send me a PM here outlining your expression of interest, including academic background/experience and availability before 31 August 2025.
