so my school is VERY picky with who does what level of maths, and bc last yr i got constant 90s for 5.3 math i was placed into ext 1 math (notice the placed and not chose? yes the math staffroom does that)
at first i thought ext 1 math to be VERY hard like i was expecting the absolute worst bc our 25 ext 1 math cohort all dropped due to difficulty (only 2 from originally 14 students remain and they are accelerated - one tried dropping but was refused) so i went tutoring (which i hated) for term 1 and did ext 1 work independantly from both tutoring and homework to stay on top of things
leading to my first AT1 (which was purely combs and perms) i found that all past questions and textbook questions 'easy', i wasnt sturggling, stuck or crying like i thought i would (this excludes the pigeonhole principle
)
all the questions i was doing were right and ironically i found advanced VERY EASY like omg (i said ironically bc i thought adv was my level)
so i was thinking of doing extension 2 math but was a bit nervous since as i said my school is very picky
they said 'constant 90s in math advanced is the standard to get into extension 2 maths'; the problem? i got an 83% on my adv AT1 and probably got 70% on my AT2 (im praying for an 80)
so yesterday i got my reports (just took a whole ass term) and immediately went to math and saw that i have achieved:
the equal in front of the numbers mean 'equal rank/mark' so other people achieved this
also yesterday was the parent teacher night and my teacher voiced her concern with me doing ext 2 maths bc its 'too time consuming, theres gonna be days where you do nothing but math and since at this school you're not allowed to drop adv math till trials, you'll have to do adv, ext 1 and ext 2, bearing in mind that if you fail an advanced assessment you'll be forced to drop ext 2 even if you're doing good in it'
this lowkey exhausted me from just listening LIKE 3 MATHS COME ON BROOOOOOO
my mum is against me doing ext 2 math constantly saying that 'its too hard'
another problem i have is that im doing absolute shit in physics i got a 42/100, rank 10/12 and grade D [3 people got an A]
so im 100% dropping physics at the end of year 11 which my mum is also against
anyways too much yap but i just wanted to give context
ultimately i want to inquire about the following:
1. Is it really too much work? minimum how many hours does everyone do (just for ext 2)?
2. Does anyone's school also force them to do all three math levels? If so how did you manage?
3. Is dropping physics negatively impacting me? [please dont say yes bc i really want to drop it
]
4. Is it too early to decide now?
5. Should I just do what my mum tells me? Keep physics and don't do extension 2?
6. My school also does not include extension subjects with the timetable so I'll have to attend early class 4 times a week (2 for ext 1, 2 for ext 2), the thing is they start at 7:30AM and to get there on time I usually wake up at 5:30AM [they do this bc as i said we aren't allowed to drop advanced]
7. [not a question] I WILL be dropping extension 1 if I don't proceed with extension 2 because despite that I find it 'easy' I feel like putting in extra work for one unit that won't count towards my ATAR and makes me wake up at 5:30 to get to class on time is not worth it
I KNOW ITS A LOT OF YAP BUT PLZ HELP ME OUT
