Is it really too much work? minimum how many hours does everyone do (just for ext 2)?

I think the effort would be dependent on how good your foundation is since maths extension 1 would be using knowledge and skills from advanced or earlier years. Similarly extension 2 would be using knowledge from advanced and extension 1 (hence nothing such as 'extension 2 only')

For example if you learn maths induction the concept can probably be taught in 1 hour or even less. But practically it would be hugely dependant on your algebra skills ,factorisation and also the familiarity with factorial manipulations to solve the problems correctly and efficiently. This is a good example of "I get it and understand in class but why I cannot do well in exams or make the so-called silly mistakes"

Similarly for complex numbers it would be dependent on your foundation on earlier topics such as trig, polynomials, vectors, geometry/circle geometry and of course algebraic manipulations.

For students with weaker foundation one would need to revisit these "prerequisite topics" to properly prepare and learn the new topic.

Sorry just out of curiosity on the context

1. Why do you want to do maths extension 2? As in do you need it for university study or would the belief be that it would 'boost' your ATAR?
Cuz if it's the first I think it would be worthwhile to give it a go but for the latter I do think your teacher may have a point as in it would be very time consuming (hence may actually affect your other subjects) given its complexity and also you have to prepare for all 3 sets of maths assessments

2. How many band 6's does your school usually have for maths advanced, extension 1 and extension 2?
1. no i dont need to for either uni or boosting of ATAR, its just that i really like math and as i said im finding ext 1 relatively easy and advanced extremely easy, im the type of person to always look for challenges
2. In 2024 we got, 14/26 for adv, 7/10 for ext 1 and 3/4 for ext 2 (in terms of b6s)
this year we only have an adv class (we have ext 1 but the two students are accelerated and ‘wont count’ tho i think only one from the two will band 6)

Personally if I were you it would be worthwhile to give it a go just bear in mind some of of the challenges may include:
1. convince your teacher that you can do it
2. be prepared for the morning lessons
3. be prepared to do 3 sets of maths assessments
4. and also balance the time you spend on your other subjects
