I don't think you have to it’s probably not as much cost wise as it’s student services (I’m assuming fees for Microsoft, internet access etc.) - saying that I’ve applied to it for now (might change it later).

I’ve also applied to the same couse as you!
Did it ask you about your science major, cuz mine only asked me for engineering?

idk i really hate the unsw system cause its so confusing, but no it only asked about engineering majors during the accept part i.
i really have no clue what im doing here, should probably have read the handbook but ive been slacking
can i also ask if you only applied for 4 classes for term 1 (intro to uni, engineering design, maths and phys) and if you have managed to apply for classes for term 2 or later?

ok yeah thats what im experiencing as well thanks! were you able to use the myplan system to load some preset classes on or did you have to enrol each class manually as well? im just worried that ive only put down like 3-4 really generic sounding classes i pulled off the recommended progression plans online and my friend doing just engineering pretty much has the exact same classes as me, so idk if the classes are really covering the adv sci part of my double

lol nope myPlan didnt work. Tbh I was on call with a friend who does the degree im enrolling for and she explained it all to me but honestly once u get the hang of it it's pretty easy! search up unsw progression plans and click ur faculty then go to ur degree (it has doubles all of them), and click it (I'll do this for u rn).

another tab go to the unsw website > search ur degree > what do I study thingy > scroll and click handbook - from here go to the 'Level 1, 2 etc' or whatever its called under disciplinary component for ur degrees and look through ur first yr courses and see what u have to take first then go to 2nd yr to make sure you've put in the right ones - pretty sure progression plan has everything for u anyways tbh this is just extra work but I did it for my electives cos some require prerequisites in their area of study (e.g. Arts faculty offering a history class but I wasnt able to add it cos it required a previous history course) 0 so sorry if this didnt make sense im just yapping 💔let me get the plan for u and u check if you've done it right.

OH AND ALSO wherever it says free elective on what im gonna send, check on the unsw handbook (para above) and see if u have any second yr courses that dont require prerequisites cos u can js do them in first yr (unless u reckon ur workload is gonna be too much which im assuming it will)

I haven’t applied to classes yet - I started to but am a little confused 😭.

I found out we don’t choose adv sci majors yet cuz they make us cover basics for everything first and we choose a major later in the year (near then end). For eng we actually chose our degree not out major (if that makes sense) since they offer the various engineering degrees as individual degrees. Kind of like choosing our pattern of study.

I’m probably going to use myplan to figure out what I need for term 1. Checking the handbook for renewable eng. I only need 3 courses in term 1 for it, not 4 - but this may be different if you’re doing mech. Probably best to check the handbook. However, I was talking to someone who went to UNSW and they said it’s not required to follow the subjects given in the handbook specifically in that order as long as we cover them at some point as they may be prerequisites for higher courses required later - so I guess it gives us some flexibility in that sense.

Yeah alright makes sense
Also I’ve only got the extra 4th course because of the intro to uni for science, it’s not part of engineering so I’m assuming we’re all the same

OMG thank you so much. Would you know if these are what we’re required to complete or just an example?
Pre sure this is just recommended but from looking at the handbooks it’s basically all the required courses which are available in first term.
No clue what else I would put though it’s already pretty jam packed and there’s so many other courses idk where to get started. Myplan is not helpful either it doesn’t load the planned pathways for me for some reason

I feel like the progression plan barely covers any of the engineering degree; the handbook showed a lot more specific courses for the renewable eng. degree (e.g. according to the handbook I should also be doing electrical circuit fundamentals but this doesn’t show up in the plan). Do you think since it’s a double they’ll only cover the degree more broadly to fit it all?

In myplan did you try going to explore -> pathways -> selecting T1? It basically shows the same as the progression plan though

Idk if this has already been asked but can I do 3 courses in my last term instead of 2? It means I’ll have 54 UOC instead of 48 (which is what they recommend) but I’d rather do the same amount of courses per term
