when are you lot sitting your trial exams. my school is doing mine week 4-5 of text term which i think is way too early and were expected to come back to school after to finish off content.

im honestly worried about english, for prelim mod b (we did othello) we basically didn’t even touch act 5 and didn’t have any time for mock tests or anything. we haven’t started king henry and i don’t think we’re going to finish this one in a timely manner either so i have zero idea how we’re going to prepare for mod c in whats effectively 2 weeks (unless my teacher decides to spend weeks 1-2 finishing mod b then 1-2 weeks on exam prep then start mod c after trials?)

Week 3+4 next term. Mate, everyone’s in the same boat, which is why no one does very well. If you want to do well across your subjects it means preparing wayyy ahead. Most courses won’t be finished, so they substitute questions in, but for my English we did Mod C over 2 weeks to compress it a lot for the trials. It’s silly, but if you start preparing now an ace it, your rank can skyrocket

Tbh I thought trials were gonna be week 7-8 and because my cohorts is >70 people we would have our marks ready by then. I’m gonna be trial ready by the beginning of t3 tho, these holidays will basically only be past papers

What does everyone consider ‘trial ready’ for English Advanced / standard ? Being able to confidently sit Paper 1 and Paper 2 with the 3 essays fully memorised? (And maybe a Mod C piece too?)
basically, yeah. or at least having 12 qte’s memorised if you’re good at analysing on the spot. others it’s having fully adaptable essays memorised

Danggg it’s actually gonna be a mental amount of work. Not to mention learning how to adapt, and all the timed essays to complete once we’ve memorised. My teacher said you can’t get an A if you don’t adapt to answer the question directly, which is fair of course. But that’s a whole new skill in itself. And Module C, what the? The stimuli are so incredibly broad, that’s gonna be the hardest.

why would u rather do paper 2 than an open exam that crap was traumatic
tbh the exam today wasnt even bad but sometimes i just reminisce on just writing about random things. when you really think about it and look back like writing a made up story or analysing a piece of poetry was kind of fun and lightwork idk

as I keep reminding my students . Memorising essays is a risk .

The NSW HSC English syllabus (introduced in 2019) is explicitly designed to reward deep understanding, adaptability, and critical thinking rather than the rote memorization of pre-prepared essays.
While memorization of quotes and techniques is still common for speed, the exam format aims to penalize students who "regurgitate" a pre-written essay without adapting it to the specific question asked

I know a similar school that literally does this, called Al-Faisal bru they literally do two trials and take the avg of both trials. Ong students must be so fried there, you gotta feel for them.
