also ppl seem to hate the trimesters at UNSW, and as an added bonus to the general length of transport longer to USYD (ig ten minutes for most ppl considering you take the train there) you have to compete with sg and sb students on the metro
(what i've heard)
omg when i use to take the tram home there was alway a hoard of sydney boys and girls...like if i got on the next stop i'd be squished against the doors.

what do you wanna do?
I honestly don't mind engineering. I've really been talked up about engineering/medicine my whole life, and I really enjoyed Tech Mandatory, especially Wood and Metal. I think I'd make a good engineer, it's just that that's what I've always been pressured to do for the future

Also, I don't think they'd be too pissed if I do another course, as long as it has a good job market and has prestige in society if you get that. They do care about what Uni I go to though, Education has always been the first of my family's priority

Yeah my parents are like this as well.
I'm glad that you atleast find engineering fun, so you don't feel too pressured

Judging by what they said, they probably didn't want to pressure you too much. From just what you said, they're really good parents

Anyone else on the UNSW y10 Info Evening? I feel like some info is good, but they're repeating stuff a lot, whether its stuff from earlier in the presentation or things teachers/parents etc say to us

my internet was rlly bad so I was on hotspot that glitched a lot making me miss out on like 1/3 of the stuff they said. Do you remember what they talked about for if you're unsure about what subjects you want to pick/ what you want to do bc I missed out on that part
but yeah they repeated a lot of stuff and kinda basic information (from the stuff I actually listened to), though I suppose it's probably still good to address anyways

They said the usual. Pick subjects you can study for hours, subjects you think you can enjoy. They also said if you don't do a subject listed as assumed knowledge for a degree you want to do, bridging courses are available.

I feel like I'm in that period where I keep switching what I want to be if yk what I mean. It seems childish, and I realise that, but right now, I'm quite into Engineering, a few weeks ago it was Lawyer, in the holidays it was an Actuary. So honestly, I'm baffled right now regarding what I want to do.

I'm thinking:
Physics (2)
Maths E1 (3)
English E1 (3)
Legal Studies (2)
Geography (2) OR Modern History (2) (Geographys my go to though since it's always been my favourite subject, dk if it'll run though)

Hbu?

dw I'm also constantly switching my career aspirations. Like some days I want to do medical research, some days design, some days commerce or business, some days architecture

Yeah switching preferences is normal I used to switch preferences a lot especially in yr 8
Some things I've wanted to do:
Like I wanted to be a detective (bc i used to read mystery books a lot) then a lawyer and then a judge bc they were related then realised I didn't want to get into like crime stuff
I considered but my parents didn't want me to (they do computer, it's not that great)
Game designer/maker but one parent js said AI would do it (arguably making games IS hard I gave up on this project too time-consuming, though I've done some small ones from a workshop)
I wanted to be a doctor in yr 6 bc everybody else wanted to but I don't anymore bc I think I'll be too scared to do anything complex or give wrong advice

The subjects I'm probably going to do are:
English and Math 3 unit
Physics

I'm tied between bio, chem, and IDT
I will probably stick with the sciences, but it's def a workload. IT is chill (progresses to IDT) but IDT kinda scales bad, the teacher's tests are so hard, and even though I'd probably do well in terms of ranking I'm not sure if I'll be very motivated. Also I'm generally good at science asw.
Hopefully I can just do 4U next yr so Yr 12 can be a breeze (js think of all those free periods - words can't describe how I feel when I think of them)

Being a doctor is kinda scary. If you become a surgeon, you earn buttloads of money, but you're patients life is in your hands which would worry me a lot knowing myself
