Although I might consider doing enterprise computing instead of the sciences (somewhat unlikely though, will probably be my first reserve)

I am in year 10, and i'm quite stressed at the moment about what subjects to pick, especially on how many units of eng and maths to do.
Currently I have put down 3u eng, 3u maths, bio, chem, and economics (dropping econ in yr 12 i think bc only minimum 10units is required in yr12 and i want to do the least units possible)
But im also thinking if i do good in 2u eng advanced and 2u maths advanced it would put me in a better position/higher atar

Can anyone give any advice at all on if this is a good choice of subjects and anything you have to say about it or if I should do 2u eng advanced and 4u maths idk porbs not

I also do music and my music teacher has constantly told me to choose music but I think I would perform better in econ and it is a better scaled subject.

For uni, Im looking into dentistry, general practitioner, vet OR business analytics, economics, commerce

Pls reply asap if you have any comments on this as I am picking subjects real soon

I think just choose what u enjoy cause if u enjoy math and English and ur good at it then chooose 3 unit. If not then don’t. Are u thinking of picking music 1 or 2 because if ur doing music 2 then scaling shouldn’t be an issue. But if u are interested in business and commerce stuff in uni then maybe eco will be better. But it depends on what u think you’ll enjoy more

I think just pick what ur more interested in. Business still does have quite a bit of content and there's a lot of memorisation so that's something to keep in mind. But yeah eco is slightly harder but even if u do bad like it scales good so like u should fine. But it depends cause some people can find the content in business kinda boring so decide which one u think you'll enjoy more

Nice! I know you've already made your decision, but I just wanted to say that I picked basically the same subjects (except chem) in year 11 and I was also planning on dropping eco, but it ended up being my best subject. If you're interested in doing business/commerce, then eco's really useful. I've found that the hardest part is memorising stats and writing essays, but the content itself is quite conceptual and can be very interesting (even though it can sometimes be a lot). All the best for next yr

In my school, I have to do at least 1 unit of studies religion and they also strongly oppose dropping a subject after yr 12, which means I will probably have to stick with the same amount of units in both yrs (a minimum of 12).

The subjects I know I definitely want to do are:
-advanced maths
-advanced english
-economics
-business studies.

Questions

1. Is picking 13 units too much of a workload, or should I just stick with 12 units — or even go down to 11 (if allowed)?
2. Should I choose SOR 1 OR SOR 2?
   • I do well in religion but don’t enjoy it much, so I’d prefer SOR 1. However, I’m considering SOR 2 if it means I can keep a lighter subject load elsewhere. I also wonder if SOR 2 is more difficult than SOR 1 or it just covers more content than SOR 1.

If I do:

• SOR 1, I need to pick 3 more units
• SOR 2, I only need to pick 2 more units

The subjects I am interested in and thinking about choosing to fill in the remaining units are:
-Legal studies
-biology
-investigating science
-Italian beginners.

and to a lesser extent
-health and movement science, but I wouldn't mind doing it and is probably helpful/needed with biology if I do choose that

I have a general idea of what I want to do in the future going on a university pathway, preferably something in finance like an economist but that career choice could change as I am also interested in science as a backup option.



What I think of each subject I am interested in:

-legal studies, would probably work well as I am already doing 2 humanities and I do have an interest in the subject, I am doing commerce right now which I enjoy a lot and also incorporates small bits of legal studies in it however I do not think legal studies would benefit me in my future career pathways of either finance or science because it really only helps with becoming a lawyer which I do not want to do and I also know it has a fair bitof content which could be a problem as the other subjects I am choosing are fairly heavy in content too.

-Italian beginners, find it a fun suject, heard it is fairly light in content which eases my workload and is also fairly easy to pick up/understand because I had to do Italian in yr 8 and I did extremely well in it (got full marks in all my exams)

-Investigating science, I find it a fairly interesting science which I have heard doesen't have an extreme amount of content and is not too difficult, and also places a fair emphasis on scientific skills which I like doing.

-Biology, I also find it a really interesting science and really enjoyed learning the biology topic I did this year and have heard the could help me get into a fair few different scientific pathways that I have found interesting like sport and excersise science and biomedical science. (also wonder if its recommended to do health and movement science).However I have heard that it is an extremely heavy subject in terms of content, arguably the heaviest content subject which can heavily increase my workload and cause problems as I am already doing subjects that have a fair bit of content.

-Health and movement science, I find it interesting and wouldn't mind doing it. Not sure if its an extremely heavy content course and would like to know if anyone knows the answer. Again just do what u enjoy cause like the only prerequisites there can be is in math and sciences depending on what u want to do. But in my school many people do 13 units in yr 11 including myself so it’s fine cause then u can drop one of ur 2 unit subjects in year 12. but if u really want to have a ‘easy’ subject then that can be good but just choose what u think u like and will enjoy.

Bio is kinda content heavy but I think u should be fine doing a lot of content heavy subjects as long as u have a good work ethic and u are willing to put in the effort. If u want to do legal u should to and Dw about it not being useful for uni cause as long as u do the subjects that have prerequisites for the courses u want to do then u should be fine.

For SOR 1 vs 2. They are basically the same and it isn’t harder. It’s just a bit more work but it’s really light and easy so if u don’t mind doing it then u can pick it as a lighter subject. But if u hate it like me and u don’t really want to do it then don’t cause there are other subjects that u can do that can lessen ur workload and don’t just pick it for the units if u know ur gonna hate it

Also if u do 13 units it gives u more options to drop cause then u can drop ur 2 unit subject and still have 11 units which gives u a backup unit. My school recommends this
