I think it's a more factual report than proving a point...so it's a more balanced writing style that incorporates arguments for both sides. The following question:
"
“Then, although it was still the end of the story, I put it at the beginning of the novel, as if I needed to tell the end first in order to go on and tell the rest.”

Can be answered by arguing that whilst the stylistic choice to put the end at the beginning sets the expectations of the audience, the non-linear storytelling may confuse the audience.
