whats the best way to prepare for trials, i've always memorised my essay and gotten decent marks, but feel overwhelmed memorising 4 in such a short period of time.

assuming your trials are in 4/5 weeks, i'd say you have plenty of time to memorise your essays. aim for one per week and you should be fine
