Guys before i lock my prefrences in could you help me decide where i should choose criminology or commerce as my second degree to law or as a degree to do an itp later. Some context: I cant do math, i am very english-legal based student even though i ranked 1st in business. My business teacher kept telling me to sack criminology and do commerce because i can specialise in like hr law or something.

Im considering cirminology because it might be easier to get a higherWAM but im not sure

Just do what’s fun for u- go criminology. You’ll get a higher WAM doing what you like, also bc not all comm majors r the same what’s taught in business so u getting a high WAM depends on the major

why criminology?
tbh because its in the same faculty and like i feel like it would be similar to the crime syllabus ive done in legal, i also did a mock class on unsw open day and it was genuinely light weight. but now that i am saying this commerce seems like a better option, i also heard you can pick your own subjects? is that correct? if so, can i just pick non-math subjects?

lmao never realised crimonology was ran out of law fac at unsw

u can look at the handbook for commerce, and then look at the major u want to take - you can dodge numbers pretty substantially afaik. i would recommend taking some accounting/finance courses and not dodging numbers entirely if you have thoughts of going into corporate law

no. often doesnt even matter if youve done the relevant unit in your law degree (since hiring happens earlier than a lot of specialised units)

ofc im not going to dodge it entirely but in a scenario where i dont get law and have to transfer i dont want my wam relying on my weakest subject and getting rejected for an itp

there's a couple mandatory subjects in commerce first yr which murder a lot of peoples wams & u need to be careful of (weird marking). at least in so far as usyd, doing an arts deg and selecting piss-easy units might be the way to go for maximising wam

not too sure for unsw but in usyd usually the bs sounding units like blah blah insert buzz word [e.g. leading] business which 800 students mandatorily take - and weird marking practices, probably resulting from bs content & the fact that u cant tell a properly written answer from a chatgpt'd answer (which everyone will do). usyd ye after a year. unsw ull be fine i reckon isnt the internal transfer wam fairly low

ye, try your best, do what you can and ull be aight. dont stress about it -- if u couldnt get the ipt wam writing essays/exams against non-law students u'd get brutalised doing the law deg and be miserable anyways

ye okay people will probably be fried in law anyways if they arent high 70sing arts/commerce or whatever else (at least in so far as wanting top corporate jobs, i suppose people passionate about family/criminal law being denied when they could pass law courses is a disservice)
