Hey guys I’m admits trials and sooo nervous, currently my results are as such,
1. math ext: 60 -> tho our teachers say our papers are much harder
2. math adv: 84
3. English: 88
4. Business: 89 might go down after trial
5. chem: 85
6. Bio: 75

i was wondering if it is still possible to get 90+ note school is around 60ish ranked. FYI these scores are all subject to change potentially lower. Let’s say if I do bad for trials I was wondering if was still possible. I was told that ur marks and hsc arks are averaged I.e internal = 70 and had raw =70-> 80 after scaling hen the average of the 2 will be 75?

Hello there!

I'm gonna preface this by saying the answer is yes, but it's actually really complicated.

How it the averaging actually works to the best of my knowledge:
1. You get your internal ranks
2. Say the highest internal mark was 60 and the lowest was 20, and the highest in the HSC was 80 and the lowest was 60 - the highest rank internal will get 80 as their internal mark, and the lowest rank internal will get 60 as their internal mark (externals are not affected)
3. If you're in between, then you get moved accordingly! So if you say ranked 2nd with a 54 internally, that would probably get changed to approximately 77. Note that though your actual internal mark doesn't do anything, it still determines how well you moderate, so it's not purely rank that matters.
4. Then they average this score and your external mark!

I say this because this is why it's really hard to judge HSC performance and ATAR based on internal (and just wanted to bring this up with what you said about averaging). Given you're in a school approximately around the 60s, and your math exams are decently difficult, I would say that you definitely have a chance to get above a 90. The bio mark does look a little bit sketchy, though. What I would do is see how many people in your school got b6s in each subject in past years and see whether your rank is within those! If you're getting like 2, 3 band 6s then you probably will get a 90+, especially if it's one of the 'harder' subjects.

Hope this helps!
