Hmm I feel like it’s good to always mention that architecture isn’t like traditional art in the way it engages with audiences, bc people both interact with it functionally and as a site of beauty. Try to explore how it interacts with the environment around it too, e.g. does it disrupt a harsh, muted cityscape with organic, fluid forms. (e.g. Zaha Hadid). Or is it abstract, acting as a source for audience questioning and wonder? (e.g. Frank Gehry).anybody got tips for analysing architecture for the short answer especially when the question is something abt the world or environment
I'm prolly gonna do a frames question, hoping for postmodern or culturalWhat framework do yall reckon you’ll choose for the exam? I’m tossing up between conceptual and frames tbh, I feel like usually the practice ones are usually a bit more niche. Also how many different artists/artworks are you guys referencing??
From what I understand I'm pretty sure it's fine to bring elements from other areas as long as you answer the question and expand on that frame you've chosen, especially for areas such as material and conceptual artist practice since they kinda act as the evidence for your argument if that makes senseGuys do the essays have to be solely about the framework of the question or can you bring in other ones? For example, if you chose a Frames question, could you still bring in elements of the practice/conceptual framework or would it not really gain any marks?
ty! And yeah, they deffo do seem to overlap a lot and blend together lolFrom what I understand I'm pretty sure it's fine to bring elements from other areas as long as you answer the question and expand on that frame you've chosen, especially for areas such as material and conceptual artist practice since they kinda act as the evidence for your argument if that makes sense
although, lowkey I feel like a lot of the different frameworks and frames and artist practice sorta overlap.. so as long as your argument is fleshed out and extends onto that frame adding other areas is completely fine.
take this with a grain of salt tho im kinda just assuming lmfao
I feel like broad questions under artist practice are easier since you can talk about pretty much anything, but at the same time other questions under different frames that are slightly more specific can make your argument more evaluative and give more directionidk which essay question to choose what's easier
im aiming for 3 artists, around 2 per artist, however one of my paras is on Arthur Boyd's Brides series so that sorta acts as one artwork bc i discuss the series as a whole before going into further detail on a few of the works in it. And I think having external quotes is good too, but make sure it supports your analysis, rather than bringing in new analysishow many artists are we doing gang im struggling between 3 artists 1 artwork each or 3 artists 2 artworks each
im also planning to use artist/critic quotes perchance
its basically strutcured like an essay + it depends on the question, if it's asking for a compare then yeah do a compare paragraphHow do y'all lowkey answer the 12 marker? Like do you do a brief analysis of all the artworks and then do a paragraph comparing them? How should I be structuring it![]()
I also do my responses like a mini essay, usually there are 3-4 plates/artworks for a 12 marker, so I do a short intro sentence that links them all together, then go in to body paragraphs (about a page per artwork/plate - if one artwork has two plates dedicated to it, then I split the page and address each one in the paragraph), and then a short conclusion linking them together again and how their themes/meaning/whatever the question asks resonate and are reimagined across the piecesHow do y'all lowkey answer the 12 marker? Like do you do a brief analysis of all the artworks and then do a paragraph comparing them? How should I be structuring it![]()
