My fucking asshole teacher kept saying "but these are skills (video presentation) which cannot be assessed in the HSC examination, so we're assessing you on it here"

well I wonder why they aren't tested in the HSC fucking EXAMINATION

yeah thats really stupid. my rank for biology was only so low because idk how to edit videos that well.
i just dont get it because stuff like presentations and videos have barely any relevance to skills required in the HSC

Still, NSW has the best internal assessment system by far (even better if your teacher gives exams only).

In every other state, their internal assessment is NOT and CAN'T be an examination.

They also do NOT do trial examinations as an internal assessment (hence your assessment rank is based wholely on dogfuck useless assignments)

If it wasn't for me getting a band 6 in Mathematics Standard 2, no one would have gotten a band 6 in my cohort (top 3 place were all bunched together, and we all get 98 internally despite averaging 82 at most).

In Physics, 1st averaged 96.7 % but got 69 in the trials (the internal assessments were depth studies, presentations and one exam that was only worth half the marks of the 3rd assessment task, with the 4th assessment task being from Independent Trial Exams). I got 1st in the trials but 2nd internally overall. This resulted in a HSC internal mark of 80 despite averaging 82 raw.

NESA should doing something about the structure of assessment tasks. As after all, they should be designed to assess the actual student's abilities, not be given free marks just for writing good presentations or depth studies.

The hsc internal and your internal raw shouldn’t be the same dawg. Schools should be incentivised to set harder tasks. If n raw internal meant getting n mark in HSC, then schools should give easy ahh tests

also bro this ain’t even a NESA thing. A lot of schools weigh bs hand ins very low. It’s more a problem of your school (and mine too unfortunately)

you're not getting punished cuz your cohort is buns, you're REALISTICALLY getting punished cuz you bummed your internal

I accept that my internal marks were not stellar. But my internal would've been higher if more of my assessments were exam style (I am good with exams, less with assignments) because people higher ranked than me did objectively bad on the trial yet smashed other assessments such as presentations and depth studies.

Teachers unfortunately usually do this when they know that students will do bad anyway or when the school underacheives (the most band 6s in a single year at my school was 7)

yeah same for my school. for all the sciences, we only got 2 band 6's out of nearly 100 people.
but considering what we have to do for internals, it's not that surprising.
for chemistry we get ridiculously easy exams where everybody who somewhat cares about the subject gets full marks and top students are only differentiated by how they did on their video.
like i get we're not that highly ranked of a school so maybe there's no incentive to push us, but some students actually have the potential to perform well. with these kinds of internals lots of people dont even get a chance as the wrong skills are being encouraged.

^^ lots of the high ranking people in my schools biology cohort are only there because they're good at making videos which is completely unrelated to biology content. the same goes for the other sciences (and probably many other subjects too).
there should definitely be stricter rules on what schools can set as internal tasks.

i was like in a similar situation except our physics teacher kept chucking in past hsc questions as our assessment tasks which was annoying cause i was planning on saving them for trials and before hscs so i was practicing from other resources; and since other people were spamming smarter maths beforehand they ended up getting near the top ranks but by the time trials hit they fell and i ended up topping just by a small margin and i ended up being the only one that b6 for that science - like i literally remembered after the 3rd task i deadass thought i was gonna pull a band 4 atp cause my school was ranked so badly
