imagine slaving away for an amazing atar for med just for the interviewers to reject u
Genuine question for prospective med students too, why do yall want to go straight into med? Isn't there post-grad routes to do medicine? I feel like all the stress isn't worth it (in my very unambitious opinion).

fr and undergrad med is still a relatively new course too. Doesn't it only make a 1-2 year difference in the course of your career anyway?

post-grad routes are just as stressful if not more stressful from what I've seen (maintaining a good WAM, doing the GAMSAT, ensuring you did the right units in your undergrad degree, etc) - you have to do an interview anyways too

honestly though for me it's because I'm lazy and I don't want to think about it more than I have to

Isn’t post grad routes more stressful coz it isn’t guaranteed, your competing against so many others especially with the gamsat and so many ppl get left with undergrad degrees they don’t even want

I see what your saying, cause I spent the whole yr working towards it, only for my UCAT not go well, but I'm planning on trying again next yr hopefully.

The undergrad courses are kind of sped up which is one of the reasons I want to do it. The post grad pathway requires a 3yr bachelor, then you do the GAMSAT test and interviews and some uni's require some minimum marks in bachelor, then 4yr postgrad, which adds up to 7 whole yrs. So by doing undergrad you can also skip the whole GAMSAT and interview and once your in, your in and set for life basically.

yeah the most optimal undergrad is supposedly medical science, but it's arguably more competitive than the BMed/MD stream and you might get saddled with a degree that is literally useless unless you go for the MD pathway

Wowzers, I was under the very wrong impression that it would have been easier to get into medicine postgrad lol.
I genuinely couldnt even consider medicine same with even bio I find it too yucky idk i cant find a better way to explain it 😭 😭
Fr, I have considered every possible career paths but medicine and the army so I have a great admiration for anyone who wants to get into medicine.

me, for whom those were two of my biggest considerations: 👀

but fair enough though! there's smth for everyone, and honestly the process to get into med is so counterintuitive considering the supposed "doctor shortage" we have
