Glenn McGrath will reportedly hand a letter of resignation to Cricket Australia today, confirming he is ready to quit the game but wants to play until the end of next year's World Cup in the West Indies.

The 36-year-old will fly to Melbourne today and deliver the letter that confirms the fifth Ashes Test in Sydney will be his last, The Herald Sun says.

"I am not sure what's happening after Sydney but I want to go to the World Cup," McGrath was quoted as saying.

McGrath would have announced his decision earlier this week but did not want to rain on Shane Warne's retirement parade.

The sudden departures of the dynamic duo brings to an end the most potent bowling combination in cricket history. Warne and McGrath played 103 Tests together, taking 1254 Test wickets between them.

I would argue that Mcgrath is bigger loss. Mcgrath has terrorised nearly all the nations - i would say all the batsman from all countries.

Mcgrath has always immense pressure with his economical bowling.

if i was to play mcgrath i'd just hit the ones going for the stumps and leave everything else... but that's why i am not in the team

huge lost, i can't believe the 2 greatest bowlers in our test history have quit on the team simultaneously, i'd be so surprised if we still dominate in the sub-continents. man its like someone telling me australian cricket has died....
