guys should I listen to the math head teacher cause she said that we should drop to std if we're getting below 75%. Or should I just ignore? I'm got a 61% on prelim and the average was 64% but the teacher said we should AT LEAST be getting 75%

year 11 marks don’t influence year 12 marks imo for advanced. i did pre average in adv in yr11 but improved in year12
so i think it’d be okay to not take the advice right now imho

Doesn't 60 still scale up in adv? Idk I feel like you should ignore.

yeah that was what I was thinking but my teacher sucks so idk if I can improve. And also it might suck up a lot of my time especially since I'm doing 2 major work subjects. But the teacher was being really blunt about it so idk. Also lots of people doing better than me are dropping so idk

I think maths is one those subjects where by nature, self studying is totally doable.

and also this is the second talk they've had cause they had one end of last term too but with the regular teachers but now it's with the head of the math department and she said that there's some people in adv that she thinks should drop and I swear she did cause she thinks more people need to drop

but they were like scaling doesn't even matter that much cause if ur doing "bad" then ur better off doing better in std and getting a better atar that way
I think theres an extent to what bad really is, like if you're failing then I get it but 60+? I feel like theres the possibility of improvement so why drop?

this might sound a little harsh but i really hate when teacher say stuff like that, it becomes so discouraging 😭😭
i have a teacher who says this sorta stuff and it sucked so much in yr12
I totally agree, I think advanced and standard math are different enough that there's no guarantee that someone will do better in standard (I know I'd probably do worse in standard than advanced due to the nature of the content) - and also, the teacher should be supporting the student! maybe every school has different difficulties of exams, but at my school only if someone was getting below 45% honestly would I recommend dropping

on the other hand, I do know people who dropped to standard and greatly appreciated the drop in workload and some went on to top the course, so maybe @Study to success would prefer that. but don't drop just because the teachers are telling you to

I'm hoping I do better on this next task cause this term I have a better teacher. But I feel like once my old teacher comes back next term I'll start flopping again

I agree, everything should really be up to you (@Study to success). Do you want to drop? Or are you considering this simply because the teacher brought it up?

well I was wanting to drop for a bit but then I decided I wouldn't but now I'm reconsidering again. Cause I just want to do whatever will be the best for me but I'm not quite sure what's best for me. Also idk why my school is being so harsh like why are they doing this and what are their motives

depends. i did end up dropping so i could focus more on my humanities cause i had alot + 2 mw's and it was so good bcs i had the knowledge from adv and only really had to learn networks and then i barely had to study so it def gave me more time. Plus, my teacher had no clue what she was teaching in adv which made it annoying. either way i think you'll be fine bcs i was getting what u are now in adv (which will scale up alot+ extra selection rank points if u wanna do a math based uni subject) then 98% in standard

yeah my teacher also mentioned if ur doing major works or essay based subjects u should consider whether math is sucking up ur time.

Probs to get as much b6 as possible or maybe to improve marks to students ratio.

I kinda get the logic of that but I feel one could totally balance it with good scheduling but then again it depends in the person. One of my friends completely dropped maths (she was in adv) to concentrate on her three major works but only time will tell whether that was worth it.

yeah the thing is I don't have time cause they were like u need to make this decision soon and don't wait to drop cause they have evidence that the sooner u drop the better u do.

but maybe I'm just overthinking this but at least with dropping bio I had this gut feeling that I should drop whereas for math I'm not feeling any conviction. But idk if I should rely on that cause like maybe I'm just tired or stubborn to believe that I should actually drop. But lowkey is it better to get a b6 in std without too much study or have to work ur ass off and possibly sacrifice ur other subjects to get a b5 in adv

Should I write an email to the head teacher?
